Introduction
The Office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities was established as an Independent Statutory Authority under section 60 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. Independent office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities started functioning in Delhi from August, 2009 till then the Department of Social Welfare was looking after the functions of Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. In Delhi, there is a provision of one Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities with one Dy. Commissioner and other supporting staff.
